Despite the “wintry mix” outside, 175 wonderful people gathered for “Welcome HOME for the Greensboro Bicentennial,” the 2008 Housing Summit. After hearing from Martha Are (NC Homeless Policy Specialist) that it costs a community more to leave homeless people on the street than to provide them with subsidized housing and supportive services, seeing the Healthy Homes bus video, and hearing from N.C. and national housing advocates about legislative issues, participants discussed what they will do in 2008.
Much of what each participant heard confirmed what they knew from previous experience, but new information surprised them — and almost everyone plans to take action. Action Plan 2008 outlines where Greensboro will be at the end of 2008 — and read the Greensboro Advocates’ Guide to Fair, Safe, and Affordable Housing to see where we are at the beginning of 2008.
YOU will be a part of making this plan happen. Find your niche, reach out to stakeholders that you know, take action, and email your progress to Beth, so that we can post updates all year long!
