Greensboro Housing Coalition is an independent nonprofit membership organization (click 501c3 letter for our nonprofit status).GHC is governed by a Board of Directors. As a coalition, GHC gives members like you the opportunity to work together to make a difference. As an advocate, we work closely with local government and many community partners but maintain an independent voice at the table to speak for safe and affordable housing.
Our Mission To advocate for decent, affordable housing for low and moderate income people and those with special needs.
Our History Twenty years ago Greensboro Housing Coalition started with a small group of outspoken housing advocates whose ideas were often unwelcome intrusions into “business as usual” for local officials, developers and landlords. Today, these same people view GHC staff as respected housing experts. We have a “seat at the table” with policy makers, non-profits, and businesses working with housing issues. We have been able to engage with leaders in sensitive topics such as racial discrimination in housing opportunities, and the relationship between health and substandard housing. The housing crisis, the economic crisis, and the interest in sustainability have created a wave of momentum for GHC’s influence.
What we do The Greensboro Housing Coalition is a referral, informational, and educational organization, assisting clients with a variety of housing problems, including:
* Finding emergency shelter, rental housing, or housing with support services.
* Avoiding eviction or foreclosure.
* Connecting those who have lost housing due to eviction or foreclosure to agencies who offer services and support.
* Finding legal help in cases of housing discrimination.
* Working with tenants to request and receive repairs from landlords.
* Finding sources for housing expenses in a crisis.
Our Vision To bring together housing and service providers to collaborate in identifying and addressing unmet housing needs in our community.
Our Strategy Our community needs a wide variety of housing opportunities, from emergency shelters to homeownership, with smooth access from one to the next. The Greensboro Housing Coalition provides the information, education, and cooperation that people need to climb the ladder — or to keep from falling off!
